Are you wondering how to clean vertical blinds? You can clean vertical blinds at home, using common household products without any expensive and difficult to use machinery. Step 1
Remove the vertical blinds. For that, bunch the blades together and pull the cord to adjust the blades open. Lift gently the top of the blade and unhook them from the tracking system. Do not use undue force on the blades, because this may cause the hook or the peg to break. It is important to hold the blades together while you remove them.
Step 2
After you have removed the blades, fold them in half being careful not to cause any creases in the fabric.

Prepare the bath tub. Pour in cold water, about half the tub. Put in the water ¼ cup of a gentle cleanser. Don’t use bleach. You can also add some liquid detergent or carpet cleaning solution for fragrance. Stir the water to dissolve all.

Put the blinds in the bath tub, in the water. You can put several sets of blades at the same time.

Leave the blinds in the bath tub to soak for at least 45 minutes. The longer they stay in the bath tub, the better. You will see the water changing color. That is because of the dirt accumulated by the blades. It is amazing how much dirt can be removed using this method.
Step 6
Remove spots. For the stubborn stains and spots use a nail brush. Do it gently going with the grain of the fabric. The majority of the stains will go just by standing in the water.
Step 7
While waiting for the blades to soak in the bath, you can clean up the tracking system. For that you can use a diluted cleaning liquid, carpet cleaning fluid or any household cleaner in a spray bottle. The cleaner should be non-bleach. Spray along the track and wipe with a clean cloth.
Step 8
Drain the water from the bath tub. Fill the bath again with cold water. Rinse the blinds and lift the blades to drain the water in excess. You can do that over a bucket to collect the water resulted from the drain. Take the blades together with the bucket back to the window, keeping the blades over the bucket. This way the water won’t drip on the floor. It is a good idea to put a towel at the bottom of the window, to protect the floor from any water dripping.
Step 9
Install back the blinds. The carriers must be placed in the open position. Using a towel wipe the blades. Polyester blades are best wiped starting from the top to bottom. The blades made of fabric; stitch-bond or fiberglass should be left to drip dry. It will take about 30-45 minutes for the fabric to dry.
